Agenda
이번 프로젝트 ‘스테이 느릇’은 건축을 단순히 물리적 공간으로 구축하는 데 그치지 않고, 환경과 사람, 그리고 과정 속에서 함께 완성해가는 건축을 지향하며 시작되었다. 같이의 가치를 비전으로 삼아 모두가 함께하는 건축을 추구한다. 느릇은 제주어로 내리막길을 뜻하며, 제주의 중산간 메밀밭과 삼나무 숲이 펼쳐진 풍경 속에서 많은 이들이 위안을 경험할 수 있도록 기획되었다.
느릇은 자연, 호스트, 게스트가 함께 참여하며 완성된다. 자연은 경사지에 단순한 건축 어휘로 안착한 건물과 넓은 중정, 옥상 정원을 통해 드러나고, 호스트는 직접 건축에 참여하며 계절마다 안팎을 가꾸어 공간을 채운다. 게스트는 이곳에 머물며 자연과 교감하고, 호스트가 가꾼 농작물과 음식을 경험하면서 삶을 공유하는 의미를 더한다.
건축 재료 역시 제주의 맥락에서 마련되었다. 지반 굴착 과정에서 나온 현무암과 돌, 주변 나무 질감을 반영한 마감재, 그리고 시간이 지남에 따라 풍경에 녹아드는 블랙 콘크리트 지붕은 건축이 자연과 경계를 이루며 묵묵히 자리 잡도록 한다. 객실은 흙, 억새, 삼나무, 돌을 주제로 하여 제주를 은유하고, 각각 열린 공감을 이끌어낸다.
결국 느릇은 완성을 지향하기보다는 함께하는 과정을 중시하며, 기존 독채 스테이와 달리 모두가 어울리고 새로운 관계와 이야기를 만들어가는 공유형 스테이를 통해 지속가능한 가치를 추구하고자 한다.
The project Nureut does not simply aim to construct a physical space, but seeks an architecture that is completed through the environment, people, and the process itself. Guided by the vision of “the value of togetherness,” it aspires to create architecture in which everyone participates. Nureut, meaning “downhill road” in the Jeju dialect, was conceived to offer comfort and solace to many through the expansive scenery of buckwheat fields and cedar forests in Jeju’s mid-mountain region.
Nureut is realized through the participation of nature, the host, and the guests. Nature reveals itself in the building’s simple architectural language, set gently on the slope, and in the wide courtyard and rooftop garden. The host contributes not only as a constant presence but also by directly participating in construction and cultivating the space season by season. Guests, in turn, engage with nature, sharing in the meaning of life by experiencing the crops and meals thoughtfully prepared by the host.
The architectural materials are also rooted in Jeju’s context. Basalt and stones unearthed during excavation, finishes inspired by the textures of the surrounding trees, and an exposed black concrete roof that gradually blends into the landscape all allow the building to form a quiet boundary with nature. Guest rooms, themed around earth, reeds, cedar, and stone, metaphorically embody Jeju and invite openness and empathy.
Ultimately, Nureut emphasizes the process of being together rather than the notion of completion. Unlike the typical independent stay, it envisions a shared stay where people can gather, connect, and create new stories, thereby pursuing sustainable value through a unique form of community living.

Stay Nureut aspires to an architecture of participation, one that is completed through the harmony of nature, people, and process. Using a simple architectural language that blends into Jeju’s materials and landscape, it creates an open space for communion with nature. Guests share life with the host, pursuing communal experiences and sustainable values.
Strategy
스테이 느릇의 전략 또한 건축을 완성된 결과물이 아니라 사람·자연·과정이 함께 참여하는 경험으로 만드는 데 있다. 제주의 풍경과 재료를 활용해 건축을 최소한으로 드러내며, 자연에 스며드는 공간을 지향한다. 호스트가 직접 건축과 운영에 참여하고, 게스트가 자연과 삶을 체험하며 완성하는 구조를 통해 공동체적 경험과 지속가능한 가치를 만들어낸다. 기존 독채 스테이가 아닌 공유형 스테이로서 새로운 커뮤니티를 형성하는 것이 핵심 전략이다.
The strategy of Stay Nureut is not to view architecture as a finished product, but as an experience created through the participation of people, nature, and process. By utilizing Jeju’s landscapes and materials, the architecture reveals itself minimally, aiming to become a space that blends seamlessly into nature. With the host directly involved in both construction and operation, and guests completing the experience by engaging with nature and daily life, the stay fosters communal experiences and sustainable values. As a shared stay rather than an individual one, its core strategy is to form a new kind of community.

제주의 바람이 지나는 중산간 들판, 사계절의 꽃과 식물이 자라는 보롬왓 한가운데 자리한 스테이 느릇은 풍경과 어우러진 건축을 통해 제주의 로컬 라이프를 제안합니다. 리셉션과 다이닝 공간, 10개의 객실이 중심 정원과 연결되어 있으며, 객실마다 숲과 밭을 담은 전망과 정원, 노천탕·사우나 등 각기 다른 휴식 경험을 제공합니다.
The Landscape and Local Life of Boromwat
Located in the heart of Boromwat, a mid-mountain plain where Jeju’s winds pass and seasonal flowers and plants flourish, Stay Nreut offers an experience of Jeju’s local life through architecture that harmonizes with the landscape. The reception, dining space, and ten guest rooms are all connected by a central garden, while each room provides unique views of the surrounding fields and forests, as well as gardens, open-air baths, saunas, and diverse opportunities for rest.
자연을 품은 공간
흙, 억새, 삼나무를 주제로 한 공간은 주변의 삼나무 숲과 메밀밭 풍경과 자연스럽게 이어지며, 보롬왓까지 산책로로 연결됩니다. 객실 내외의 데크와 욕조, 공용 수영장과 정원은 머무는 동안 자연을 온전히 느낄 수 있는 장치가 됩니다.
Spaces Embracing Nature
Themed around earth, reeds, and cedar, the spaces naturally blend with the surrounding cedar forests and buckwheat fields, and are connected by a walking path that leads to Boromwat. Outdoor decks and baths in the rooms, along with a shared pool and garden, provide ways for guests to fully immerse themselves in nature during their stay.
농업 기반의 체험
보롬왓의 농업적 가치를 담아 직접 재배한 메밀로 만든 베개, 차, 어메니티, 조식이 제공되며, 농업의 결과물이 스테이 속 생활로 이어집니다. 이를 통해 단순한 숙박을 넘어, 제주의 땅과 호스트의 손길이 살아 있는 농업 기반 체험을 경험할 수 있습니다.
Agriculture-Based Experiences
Reflecting the agricultural values of Boromwat, pillows made from homegrown buckwheat, teas, amenities, and breakfasts are all provided. soa : 스테이 느릇에서 주목할 만한 포인트가 어떤 것이 있을까요?
노경록 : 스테이 느릇은 자연환경과 지역의 맥락을 함께 보여준다는 것이 강점이예요. 객실은 소규모(10객실 내외)로 계획되어 주변 환경과 어우러진 경험을 중시했고, 단순히 머무는 공간이 아니라 조경과 농업 환경까지 체험하며 감정을 환기할 수 있도록 설계했어요.
앞의 메밀밭과 멀리서 트랙터가 지나가는 풍경 같은 요소들이 독특한 경험을 만들어요. 객실 안에서 바라보는 주변 환경이 하나의 조경적 장치로 작동해, 다른 스테이와는 차별화된 경험을 제공한다고 생각해요.
박중현 : 스테이 느릇은 숙박 자체보다, 이후에도 이어질 수 있는 이야기를 담는 프로젝트이에요. 공간 디자인뿐 아니라 어메니티(샴푸, 바디워시, 핸드크림 등)까지 직접 디자인·제작해 브랜드 경험으로 확장했어요. 이 프로젝트는 아직 끝난 것이 아니라, 앞으로도 완성될 이야기를 만들어가는 과정이라고 생각해요.
soa : 저희가 정말 흥미롭게 본 프로그램이 있는데 혹시 ‘모태솔로이지만 연애는 하고 싶어’라는 프로그램을 보셨을까요? 프로그램 속 촬영지가 ‘스테이 느릇’이었어요. ‘스테이 느릇’의 공간은 단순한 배경을 넘어서 감정과 관계를 만들어내는 무대가 되기도 했습니다. 공간이 이러한 감정의 장치로 잘 작동하였다고 보시나요?
노경록 : 프로그램 속 공간은 단순한 배경을 넘어서, 사람들이 모이고 자연스럽게 관계를 만들어내는 무대로 작동했어요. 의도했던 ‘사람들이 모여 교류하는 공간’이 방송에서도 잘 드러나 의미가 있었죠. 객실 구조와 배치 또한 대화와 교감을 유도하는 방향으로 계획되었기에, 프로그램이 공간의 성격을 잘 보여줬다고 봐요.
박중현 : 의도 했었던 ‘프라이빗 하면서도 교류할 수 있는 공간’이 그대로 구현되었다고 생각해요. 공간이 감정을 불러일으키는 장치로 작동하는 것을 실제로 체감할 수 있었던 것 같아요.
