현대 유치원 건축은 단순한 보육 기능을 넘어 아이들의 감각을 깨우고 사회적 관계를 형성하는 ‘작은 도시’가 되어야 한다. 본 프로젝트는 획일적인 층 구분을 탈피하여, 독립적인 기능 유닛들이 층위를 달리하며 조립되듯 결합되는 ‘Assemble’의 개념을 제안한다. 중앙의 아트리움인 ‘광장’을 중심으로 각 교실 유닛들이 유기적으로 연결되며, 이는 다목적실과 외부 경사 지형으로 이어져 공간의 사용성을 극대화한다. 결과적으로 ‘조립되는 공간, 얽히는 동선’이라는 체계를 통해, 아이들이 유치원에서 보내는 시간 자체가 탐색과 발견으로 이어지는 입체적인 놀이의 경험이 되도록 의도한다.
Contemporary kindergarten architecture must transcend its basic role of childcare to function as a ‘micro-city’ that awakens children’s senses and fosters social relationships. This project rejects conventional floor layering in favor of the “Assemble” concept, where independent functional units interlock at varying levels. Centered around an atrium acting as a “Plaza,” classroom units connect organically, extending their reach to multi-purpose areas and the external slope to maximize spatial versatility. Ultimately, through a system of “Assembled Spaces and Entwined Circulation,” the project ensures that a child’s daily routine becomes a three-dimensional journey of exploration and discovery.
Concept
Assemble
‘Assemble(조립)’은 독립적인 기능 유닛들이 층위를 달리하며 맞물려 결합되는 구조를 의미한다. 단순히 쌓아 올린 층의 개념이 아니라, 서로 다른 높이의 볼륨들이 블록처럼 끼워 맞춰지며 생겨나는 틈과 연결부를 통해 ‘얽히는 공간’을 창출한다.
The concept “Assemble” refers to a structure where independent functional units are interlocked and combined across different levels. Rather than a simple stack of floors, it creates “intertwined spaces” through gaps and connections formed as volumes of varying heights are fitted together like blocks.아이들이 항상 밝고 즐거운 공간에서 놀 수 있도록, 가장 많은 시간을 보내는 교실을 놀이 공간을 중심으로 배치하여 놀이 공간이 유치원의 중심이 되도록 했다. 이 과정에서 남동쪽의 녹지와 저수지의 이점을 살리기 위해 보조 출입구를 남동쪽에 두었으며, 지형의 흐름에 맞춰 서쪽은 높고 동쪽은 낮게 매스를 불규칙하게 배치하였다.
Strategy
단순한 수직 이동을 넘어 레벨 차이를 활용한 입체적 동선을 구축하여 공간 탐험의 경험을 극대화한다. 건물의 중심에 위치한 개방형 아트리움은 시각적·공간적 구심점이 되며, 보이드를 통해 서로 다른 층의 활동을 공유함으로써 아이들 사이의 자연스러운 유대감을 형성한다. 네 개의 주요 유닛은 중앙 홀을 매개로 유기적으로 맞물리며, 이를 통해 개별 프로그램의 독립성을 유지하는 동시에 전체적인 공간의 개방성을 확보한다.
Beyond mere vertical circulation, the strategy focuses on creating a multi-dimensional sequence where children explore the space through varying levels. The central open atrium serves as both a visual and spatial anchor, utilizing voids to allow children on different floors to observe and interact with one another, thereby fostering a sense of community. This is supported by the interlocking of four primary units around the central hall, a structural approach that ensures functional independence while maintaining overall spatial openness.
