둥둥 부유하는 <천공의 성 라퓨타>에서 영감을 받은 이 캣퍼니처는 ‘어떻게 하면 고양이를 공중에 띄울 수 있을까’라는 고찰에서부터 시작되었다.
이 가구에서 부유함을 구현하는 핵심 요소는 두 가지다. 첫 번째는 공간의 경계를 지워버리는 투명한 통유리와 유리기둥이다. 상하부의 판을 견고하게 지탱하면서도 시각적 무게감을 완전히 제거하여, 두 개의 판이 마치 허공에 홀로 떠 있는 듯한 착각을 불러일으킨다. 두 번째는 구조물 사이에 위치한 그물망과 그 위를 자유롭게 굴러다니는 공이다. 사방이 탁 트인 그물 구조와 공의 역동적인 움직임은 공간에 개방감과 리듬감을 더한다.
지지 구조를 숨겨주는 투명함, 그리고 그물망의 개방성이 한데 어우러지면서 고양이가 가구 위를 거닐 때 마치 중력을 거슬러 공중에 두둥실 떠 있는 듯한 신비롭고 경이로운 시각적 경험을 선사한다.
Inspired by the floating Castle in the Sky, this cat furniture began with a simple contemplation: “How can we make a cat appear to float in midair?”
There are two core elements that bring this sense of flotation to life. First are the transparent, all-glass panels and glass pillars that blur the boundaries of the space. While firmly supporting the upper and lower platforms, they completely eliminate visual weight, creating the illusion that the two platforms are hovering in midair on their own. Second are the nets placed between the structures and the balls that roll freely across them. The wide-open net structure and the dynamic movement of the balls add a sense of openness and rhythm to the space.
The transparency that conceals the supporting structure, combined with the openness of the netting, creates a mystical and wondrous visual experience—making it look as though the cat is defying gravity and floating gently in the air as they stroll across the furniture.
