애니메이션 「그녀와 그녀의 고양이」의 미유와 검은 노묘 다루를 위한 가구로, 핵심 개념은 ‘공존’과 ‘배열’이다. 취업 준비로 집을 비우는 시간이 많은 미유와, 주인의 냄새를 좋아하고 좁은 곳과 높은 곳을 선호하는 다루의 관계를 바탕으로 설계하였다.
전체 구조는 5×5 그리드와 다섯 개의 유닛을 기반으로 하며, 의자, 통로, 사다리형 계단, 일반 계단이 서로 다른 방식으로 조합된다. 소파 등받이에 뚫린 구멍과 유닛 사이의 통로는 고양이가 어느 방향으로도 이동할 수 있는 다양한 루트를 만들고, 박스형 공간은 은신처이자 휴식 공간으로 작용한다. 또한 노령묘의 안전을 고려하여 모서리를 둥글게 처리했고, 계단 위에는 쿠션과 패브릭을 적용해 이동 시 부담을 줄였다. 전체를 블랙 톤으로 구성하여 다루가 가구 속을 이동할 때 형태보다 실루엣과 움직임이 감각적으로 드러나도록 하였다.
이 가구는 고양이만을 위한 캣타워가 아니라, 사람의 소파와 고양이의 동선이 겹치며 함께 생활하는 공존의 가구이다.
This cat furniture is designed for Miyu and her elderly black cat Daru from the animated film 「She and Her Cat」, built around two main concepts: ‘coexistence’ and ‘arrangement’. The design is grounded in the relationship between Miyu, who spends long hours away from home preparing for job applications, and Daru, who loves its owner’s scent and gravitates toward narrow, elevated spaces.
The overall structure is based on a 5×5 grid and five units, combining a chair, passageway, ladder-style steps, and conventional steps in varying configurations. The opening in the sofa backrest and the passages between units creates multiple routes for the cat to travel freely in any direction, while the box-shaped spaces function as both hideaways and resting areas. Rounded corners address the safety of an aging cat, and cushions and fabric applied to the steps reduce physical strain during movement. The entire piece is finished in black tones, so that as Daru moves through the furniture, it is his silhouette and motion — rather than the structure itself — that emerge with quiet sensibility.
This is not merely a cat tower built for a cat, but a furniture of coexistence — where a person’s sofa and a cat’s path of movement overlap, and two lives unfold together.
