제주의 온기를 담다

와온(臥溫).
누울 와에 따뜻할 온을 써서 온전한 테라피 공간을 만들고 싶은 마음에서 시작한 공간입니다. 함 씨 할머니가 쌓은 덕으로 마을에 좋은 일이 가득했다던 제주 함덕에서 만난 나지막한 돌집은 첫 인상부터 좋은 기운을 불어넣어 주었습니다. 첫눈에 사랑에 빠지듯 돌집의 매력에 빠졌고 친구가 그 뜻을 함께 해 돌집을 우리의 품 안에서 새로운 해석을 더해 ‘와온’이란 치유와 테라피를 주제로 하는 스테이로 완성할 수 있었습니다.

This is started with the desire to create a space for complete therapy. The vernacular stone house I met in Hamdeok, where there was a lot of good thing happened in the village thanks to the accumulation of Mrs. Ham, the local residence gave me good energy from the first impression. At first sight, I fell in love with the stone house as if I was in love at first sight, and my friend shared the meaning and added a new interpretation in our arms to complete a stay with the theme of healing and therapy called ‘Waon’.

차분한 차 한잔, 온몸이 따스해지는 온탕, 머무는 숨을 데워주는 사우나. 그리고 따사로운 햇살을 받고 자란 허브 정원과 마음을 치유하는 낮고 고요한 욕조까지, 와온은 격렬하게 쉬고 싶은 모든 이들의 열망을 충족하기에 더 없이 좋은 장소로 기획했습니다. 기존 돌집의 맥락을 훼손하지 않으면서도 집이 갖는 원형의 미를 찾아 헤메이며 즐거운 마음으로 작업에 임했습니다.

A calming cup of tea, a warm bath that warms your body, and a sauna to warm up your stay, and from the herb gardens to calm baths that heal your mind, Waon is a great place to meet the aspirations of everyone who wants to rest properly. We went on working with a joyful mind while looking for the original beauty of the house without compromising the context of the existing stone house.

공간 Space

와온은 3채의 공간으로 이루어집니다. 환대의 공간 그리팅 하우스, 온기와 여유가 맴도는 컴포트 하우스, 그리고 차 한잔의 시간과 스파와 사우나가 있는 테라피 하우스가 마련되어 있습니다.

Waon consists of three spaces. There is a hospitality space, a greeting house, a warm and relaxing comfort house, and a therapy house with a cup of tea and a spa and sauna.

와온을 마주하면 처음으로 맞이해주는 대문채 그리팅하우스는 제주스러운 환대를 느끼실 수 있습니다. 투박함과 옛집의 모습을 그대로 살린 그리팅 하우스는 마치 어린 시절, 시골 할머니의 손처럼 따뜻합니다. 양쪽으로 이루어진 두 채의 돌집 컴포트 하우스, 테라피 하우스는 제주 주거문화를 그대로 보여주는 안거리 밖거리로 이루어져 있습니다. 제주 초가의 특징을 그대로 드러내는 ‘낭간’과 옛 기억을 불러일으키는 자연의 질감을 더한 두 채의 돌집을 복원했습니다.

You can feel Jeju’s hospitality at Daemunchae Greeting House, the first time you meet when you come to Waon. The Greeting House, which retains the simplicity and appearance of the old house, is as warm as a grandma’s hands. The two comfort houses and the therapy house show Jeju’s residential culture. We restored ‘Nangan’, which reveals the characteristics of Jeju’s thatched house, and restored two stone houses by adding the texture of nature that evokes old local memories.

과감하게 치유의 콘셉트를 실현할 수 있도록 테라피 하우스는 동 전체를 욕탕으로 설계했습니다. 물의 부드러움과 따스함, 흙과 돌, 나무 사이로 전해지는 향과 창 밖의 제주스러운 조경까지 와온에 담은 비정형의 개념들은 모두 휴식과 치유의 요소가 됩니다.

In order to boldly realize the concept of healing, the Therapy House has designed the entire building as a bath. The water’s softness and warmth, the incense passed between the soil and stones and trees, and the atypical concepts outside the window, all of the atypical concepts in Waon are elements of relaxation and healing.

테라피룸에서는 추후 테라피스트의 가벼운 터치로 구성된 스파 프로그램을 기획 중에 있습니다. 현재는 오행을 주제로 한 티, 아로마, 입욕제를 선물하는 것으로 선행되는 서비스 디자인을 선보입니다.

In the therapy room, we are planning a spa program consisting of the light touch of the therapist. Presently, we present a service design that is preceded by the gift of tea, aroma, and bath products with a theme of five elements.

컴포트 하우스는 가족이 편하게 머물 수 있는 스테이 공간으로 침대, 키친, 거실, 욕실이 하나의 공간 안에서 오픈구조로 완성했습니다. 오래된 서까래의 모습과 어우러진 베이지톤의 차분한 톤 안에서 디자이너의 감성과 새로운 해석을 더한 가구와 조명 등이 이색적인 경험을 이끌어냅니다.

The Comfort House is a stay space where families can stay comfortably, and the bed, kitchen, living room, and bathroom are completed in an open structure in one space. In the calm tone of beige tones combined with the appearance of old rafters, the furniture and lighting that add the designer’s sensitivity and new interpretation bring out an unusual experience.

이번 와온 프로젝트에서는 쉼의 경험을 새롭게 더해주는 IOT 기술이 더해졌습니다. 전체 공간의 조도와 온도, 커튼 블라인드와 매직글라스를 AI 스피커인 애플홈팟과 연동해 음성 UI로 제어할 수 있게 설계했습니다. 홈팟이 아직 한국어를 지원하지 않아서 영어로만 가능하지만, 아이패드를 비치해 누구나 공간의 분위기를 쉽게 바꿀 수 있는 감성과 기술이 어우러진 솔루션을 제안하고자 했습니다.

In this project, IOT technology is added to add a new experience to rest. It is designed to control the illuminance and temperature of the entire space, curtain blinds, and magic glass with an AI speaker, Apple HomePod, through a voice UI. Since the HomePod does not support Korean yet, it is only available in English and has an iPad so anyone can easily change the atmosphere of the space through a touch, so we wanted to propose a solution that combines emotion and technology.

경험 Experience

와온은 옛 초가와 민가가 있는 골목 어귀에 위치해있습니다. 길을 따라 대문을 열고 들어오면 이제껏 느끼지 못한 아늑하고 편안한 분위기의 허브 정원이 펼쳐집니다.

Waon is located in an alley with old thatched houses and private houses. Open the main gate along the road and enter the herb garden with a cozy and relaxing atmosphere that you have never felt before.

로즈마리의 내음이 이내 마음을 차분하게 만들어줍니다. 환대의 공간인 그리팅하우스에서는 오행의 주제에 따라 자신의 상태에 맞는 아로마와 티세트를 선택합니다.

The scent of rosemary calms the mind. At the Greeting House, a space of hospitality, the aroma and tea set are selected according to the theme of the five elements.

희미하게 들려오는 음악 소리를 따라가 컴포트 하우스의 문을 엽니다. 하나의 공간으로 펼쳐지는 돌집 아래로 포근해보이는 소파와 멋스럽게 떨어지는 조명, 그리고 온기와 여유가 스민 침실이 펼쳐집니다.

Following the faint sound of music opens the door to the comfort house. Under the stone house spreading out into a single space, a sofa that looks warm, light that falls nicely, and a warm bedroom with warmth and space are spread out.

숲의 기운을 담은 룸 안의 공기가 나를 편안하게 하고, 정성스럽게 만든 와온만의 실내복이 사각거리는 느낌으로 몸을 감싸주는 기분이 그대로의 이완이 주는 감성으로 이끕니다. 환복 후 허브정원을 지나 테라피 하우스에 들어섭니다. 옛 문을 삐걱거리며 열면 이내 수증기의 촉촉함이 그대로 온몸을 감쌉니다.

The warm air in the room that contains the energy of the forest makes me comfortable and elaborate, and the feeling of wrapping my body with a crunchy feeling leads to the feeling of relaxation. After returning, pass the Herb Garden and enter the Therapy House. When the old door creaks and opens, the moisture of the water vapor immediately wraps around the body.

불턱이란 돌 위에 놓여진 티셋트와 티포트를 활용해 오감의 티를 내려 마십니다. 음악과 차, 그리고 욕탕의 온기가 어우러진 공간 안에서 긴장과 피로로가 득한 몸과 마음을 노곤하게 녹입니다.

Drink tea with five senses using tea set and teapot placed on the stone. In a space where music, tea, and bathing are warm, it melts the body and mind filled with tension and fatigue.

테라피룸에서는 셀프 테라피 키트가 준비되어 있어 소중한 사람과 함께 서로 발과 손을 매만지며 기분좋은 아로마 테라피를 즐겨봅니다. 그리고 따뜻하게 받아진 온탕에 몸을 맡깁니다.

In the therapy room, a self-therapy kit is prepared, so you can enjoy a pleasant aromatherapy by touching your feet and hands with your loved ones. And the body is entrusted with warm water.

옛집의 천정과 두터운 돌담의 텍스처가 만들어 내는 어두운 분위기에 압도되기도 합니다. 물에 풀어놓은 오일의 향이 은은하게 공간 전체로 퍼집니다. 물 속에 누워 있는 것 만으로도 공간이 나를 위로해주는 기분입니다.

The texture of the ceiling of the old house and the thick stone wall feels overwhelmed by the dark atmosphere. The scent of the oil released in the water spreads subtly from the water to the entire space. Just lying in the water feels like space comforts me.

와온의 정수인 욕탕에 몸을 담근 후 지긋하게 눈을 감고 공간이 주는 오감에 빠져봅니다. 눈을 떠보니 기분좋은 정원의 풍경은 눈을 맑게 해주는 기분이 듭니다. 몸의 물기를 살짝 닦고 히노끼 사우나룸으로 발을 옮깁니다. 핀란드식 사우나의 따스하게 온기로 몸을 채워봅니다. 무상의 시간으로 내 스스로를 맡겨보는 시간입니다. 그 어느 때보다도 격렬하게 내 몸과 마음을 쉬게 해주는 느낌입니다.

After soaking in the bath, you close your eyes and immerse yourself in the five senses of space. When I open my eyes, the pleasant landscape of the garden makes me feel like clearing my eyes. Wipe off your body and move your feet to the Hinoki Sauna. Fill the moist body with warmth by sprinkling water in a Finnish sauna. It is time to entrust myself to free time. It is a feeling that makes my body and mind rest more comfortable than ever.

창을 여니 불어오는 선선한 바람에 살짝 쳐놓은 삼베 블라인드가 살랑거립니다. 찬 공기를 뒤로하고 담 뒤로 숨겨진 샤워룸으로 이동해 전신을 감싸는 물의 촉감을 새롭게 느껴봅니다. 그리곤 옛 목욕탕에 간 추억을 떠올리며 앉아서 물을 뿌리며 살짝 목욕도구로 세신을 하며 지난 일상의 좋지 않았던 감정을 추스립니다. 와온의 정수는 이토록 다채로운 물의 경험에 있습니다.

The burlap blinds gently swayed by the cool wind blowing through the window. Move the cold air behind and go to the hidden shower room behind the wall to feel the new touch of water surrounding the whole body. Then, sitting back, remembering the memories of going to the old bath, sprinkling with water, washing the face with bathing tools, and remembering the bad feelings of the past. Waon’s essence is in such a colorful water experience.

시원한 밤 바람을 맞으며 따스한 차와 함께 허브 정원에 놓여진 돌 의자에 걸터앉아 풍욕을 즐겨봅니다. 제주의 바람은 왠지 모르게 무념의 시간으로 빠져들게 합니다. 간단하게 차려진 음식들과 함께 술을 꺼내봅니다. 컴포트하우스는 정말 이름 그대로 안락한 느낌이 가득합니다. 그동안 느껴보지 못했던 진솔한 대화를 소중한 사람들과 함께 이어가며 잊지 못할 추억을 쌓아봅니다.

In the cool night breeze, sit on a stone chair in the herb garden with warm tea and enjoy the appetite. Jeju’s wind causes me to fall into a time of ignorance for some reason. Take a drink with the simple food. As the name suggests, Comfort House is full of comfort. We will make unforgettable memories by continuing the sincere conversation that we have never felt before with precious people.

사각거리는 침구 안에 쏙 들어가 그동안 함께 걸어온 시간들을 추억하며 살짝 감기는 눈꺼풀을 자연스레 몸으로 받아들입니다. 차분히 흘러 아침의 빛이 눈으로 들어오는 시간, 내가 아직 이 곳에 있음에 제주에 있음에 안도합니다.

I fit in my bed and fall asleep remembering the times I’ve walked together. It’s a relief that I’m still here in Jeju, the time when the morning light flows through my eyes calmly.

커피 한잔과 시작하는 다음날의 아침, 카메라를 들고 마을의 어귀를 지나 함덕의 바다로 향합니다. 에메랄드 빛의 바다는 그동안 느껴보지 못했던 또 다른 제주를 만난 듯 강렬히 빛나고 있습니다. 와온에서의 하루를 아쉬움으로 뒤로하며 다음엔 더 길게 오리란 마음을 뒤로 하고 와온을 나섭니다.

On the morning of the next day to start with a cup of coffee, hold the camera and pass through the mouth of the village to the sea of Hamdeok. The sea of emerald light is shining intensely as if I met another Jeju that I have never felt before. After a day at Waon, we leave Waon with a long-awaited mind.
