Agenda

대학교의 게이트는 그 자체의 고유한 방식으로 대학교를 상징할 수 있어야 한다. 성균관대학교 자연과학캠퍼스의 후문과 더불어 통행량이 상당한 후문 샛길은 캠퍼스로 진입하는 통로로서 그 역할을 충실히 수행한다. 하지만 이는 그저 지나치는 길일 뿐 성균관대학교의 상징성을 충분히 대변하지도, 이용자를 머무르게 하지도 못다. 캠퍼스 후문에서 삼성학술정보관으로 이어지는 하나의 확연한 축을 이용한 게이트를 만들어 상징성을 부여하고 이용자를 머무르게 하여 그저 구불구불한 통로였던 후문 샛길에 의미를 더하고자 한다.

The gate of the university should be able to represent the university in its own unique way.
The back gate of Sungkyunkwan University’s Natural Science Campus and the road that leads from it has considerable traffic and play a significant role as a passage to the campus. In contrast, the side road passage currently is gate-less, does not sufficiently represent the symbolism of SKKU, and does not attract users to stay. Using the definite axis from the back gate of the campus to the Samsung Library, I would like to create a symbolic gate for the side road that would symbolize the scheaning to the back gate’s side road, which is currently just a winding passage.

Concept

성균관대학교의 중심이자 상징은 단연 삼성학술정보관 및 그 앞의 잔디밭이다. 배치도를 확인하면, 신관B에서 도서관으로 이어지는 길의 축과 후문에서 가장 먼저 보이는 큰 건물인 신관A의 축이 일치한다. 평행하는 두 축을 게이트에까지 적용하여 설계해 학교의 상징성을 살리고자 했다. 게이트, 신관A, 신관B-도서관 통로의 평행한 세 가지 축의 반복을 통해 이용자로 하여금 학교의 중심이자 상징을 자연스레 느끼게 할 것이다.

The center and symbol of SKKU is the Samsung Library and the lawn in front of it. I confirmed leading from the layout map that the axis of the road to the Shinkwan B-Library and the axis of the largest building, Shinkwan A, were consistent. The two parallel axes were applied even to the gate to design it to bring out the symbolism of the school. The repetition of the three parallel axes(Gate, Shinkwan A, and Shingwan B-library passageway) will allow users to naturally feel the center and symbol of the school through allusion.

Site

학교 외부에서 내부로 들어올수록 경사가 조금씩 높아지는 대지이다. 후문 샛길은 굽어진 형태로 좁은 통로 형식이다.

The site has a slope which gradually increases as one enters from outside the school. The back gate side road is curved and has a narrow passage.

Design

축을 강조하기 위해 다양한 요소들을 녹여냈다.

쉼터 |

기존에 후문에 앉아서 쉴 수 있는 공간은 벤치 뿐이다. 따라서 외부에 대형 데크 공간을 조성하여 많은 인원을 수용할 수 있는 쉼터를 두었다. 쉼터는 경사를 따라 넓은 쉼터형 계단 형식으로 디자인되었으며, 계단 방향 및 화단 방향을 축에 맞추어 설계하였다. 또한 계단에 앉았을 때의 시선 방향이 고가 도로에 위치하지 않도록 방향을 인도쪽으로 틀었다.

A Rest Area |

The only place where one can sit and rest at the back gate is the bench. Therefore, a large deck space was created outside to accommodate a large number of people. The shelter was designed in the form of a wide shelter-type staircase along the slope, and the direction of the staircase and flower bed were designed according to the axis. In addition, like the draft, the direction of the gaze when sitting on the stairs was turned toward the sidewalk so that the direction of the gaze was not located on the overpass.

2층 매스 |

2층 매스는 특히나 가장 눈에 띄는 매스이므로 축을 강조하기 위해 신경을 기울였다. 2층 매스에서도 축에 방해되는 부분은 분할하여 층고를 낮춰 축에 방해가 되는 요소를 줄였다. 또한, 축에 맞는 매스는 가벽으로 돌출되게 만들었고 재료의 차이도 두었다. 마지막으로 루버를 통해 다시 한번 힘있게 강조하였다.

Since the second floor mass is the most noticeable mass, attention was paid to emphasize the axis. Even in the second floor mass, the part that interferes with the axis was divided to lower the floor height to reduce the element that interferes with the axis. In addition, the mass that fits the axis was made to protrude to the temporary wall, and there was a difference in materials. Finally, I emphasized it once again with strength through Louver.

Program

프로젝트의 요구대로 인포센터를 넣었고, 후문 부근에 부족하다고 느꼈던 공용화장실과 내부 쉼터(미팅룸), 외부 쉼터, 계단을 배치하였다. 그리고 후문 샛길의 골칫거리 중 하나였던 흡연 공간을 독립된 내부 공간으로 만들었다.

As requested by the project, an information center was put in, and a public toilet and a smoking space, which was one of the headaches of the back gate side, were turned into an independent inner space.
