Agenda
1905년에 처음 지어진 구 벨기에 영사관은 현재 약 20년간 남서울미술관으로 사용되고 있다. 리모델링은 상설 전시의 중요성, 건물의 사용 방법, 동선 등의 건축적 문제와 문화시설의 부족, 소음 등의 도시적 문제들을 바탕으로 진행하였다. 전시장을 지하로 옮김으로써 넒은 전시장을 확보하였으며 마당을 적극적으로 활용하였다. 접근성이 좋은 1층은 상점과 카페, 나머지 층은 레지던스로, 예술가들을 위한 작업공간으로 만들었다. 건물 내부에는 수직 동선 개선을 위한 새로운 계단을 만들었다.
The former Belgian Consulate, first built in 1905, has now been used as the NamSeoul Museum of Art for about 20 years. The remodeling was based on architectural problems such as the importance of permanent exhibitions, how to use buildings, and movement paths, as well as urban problems such as lack of cultural facilities and noise. By moving the exhibition hall underground, a large exhibition hall was secured and the gardens are actively used. There are store and cafe in the first floor which has good accessibility, and the rest is a residence, making it a work space for artists. Inside the building, a new staircase was created to improve vertical movement.

남서울미술관의 가장 큰 문제점은 애초에 건물이 미술관의 용도로 설계되지 않았다는 점이다. 영사관으로 지어진 건물이기에 집의 용도로 사용하기 좋고, 더해 젊은 예술가를 불러들이기엔 아티스트 레지던스가 적합하다고 판단하였다. 그리고 동선과 접근성, 차양 등의 문제와 상설 전시의 퀄리티 개선을 목적으로 하였다.

The biggest problem with the Nam Seoul Museum of Art is that the building was not designed for the purpose of the museum in the first place. Since it was built as a consulate, it was judged that it was good to use for the purpose of the house, and in addition, the artist residence was suitable to attract young artists. The purpose was to improve the quality of permanent exhibitions and problems such as movement, accessibility, and awning.
