Agenda
“재조형화”라는 프로젝트를 시작할 때, 가장 집중해야 할 것은 기존 건물에 대한 철저한 분석이라고 생각했다. 재조형화 대상 건물인 무르시아 시청은 그 지역 주민뿐만 아니라 외부인들까지 모두 수용하는 다양성이 높은 건물이다. 또한, 지어진 지 100년도 더 된 주변의 역사적 건물들과 이질감 없이 조화를 이룬다. 이러한 특징에서 직선 패턴으로 이루어진 딱딱한 외관과는 대조되는 ‘유연함’이라는 본질을 가지고 있는 건물이라고 생각하였고, 이후 ‘유연함’은 새로운 조형을 만드는 데 중심이 되었다. 그리고 이런 유연함은 무르시아 시청의 시간의 흐름, 사람의 흐름 등에서 잘 드러난다고 생각했고, 재조형화를 할 때 각종 요소의 ‘흐름’을 통해서 유연함을 표현하고자 했다.
When I started a project called “re-organization,” I thought the most important thing to focus on was a thorough analysis of existing buildings. Murcia City Hall, a building subject to reconstruction, is a highly diverse building that accommodates not only local residents but also outsiders. In addition, it harmonizes with the surrounding historical buildings that are more than 100 years old. In these characteristics, it was thought that it was a building with the essence of “flexibility,” in contrast to the hard exterior consisting of a straight pattern, and “flexibility” has since become the center of creating a new form. And I thought this flexibility was well revealed in the passage of time and human flow of Murcia City Hall, and I wanted to express flexibility through the “flow” of various elements when reshaping.
Design
‘유연함’을 콘셉트로 정함과 동시에 곡선을 주로 사용하겠다고 생각했지만, 기존 건물에서 주로 사용된 디자인 요소인 직선을 유지하고 싶었다. 어떻게 보면 완전히 대조되는 요소이지만, 여러 개의 직선 기둥을 설치하되 높낮이를 다르게 해 멀리서 보았을 때 하나의 곡선같이 보이도록 하는 기법을 통해 하나로 합치려고 노력했다. 또한, 기존 건물의 두드러지는 특성인 앞면의 패턴을 기준으로 기둥들을 배치하여 먼저 큰 ‘흐름’을 표현하였고, 기둥들의 높낮이 차를 통해 또 다른 흐름을 표현하여 크게 두 가지의 흐름을 만들어 냈다.
유연함 뿐만 아니라, 건물을 분석하며 찾은 다양성, 조화 등의 키워드들도 녹여내고 싶었다. 흰 기둥들 사이에 회색 기둥을 비율에 맞추어 넣고, 흐름을 나타내는 기둥들 옆의 큰 기둥들 또한 벽을 막고, 뚫어두는 것의 차이로 다양성과 조화를 표현하였다.
I thought that I would mainly use curves while setting the concept of “flexibility,” but I wanted to maintain a straight line, which is a design element mainly used in existing buildings. In a way, it is a complete contrast, but I tried to combine it into one by installing several straight columns but making them look like a curve when viewed from a distance by varying the height. In addition, the pillars were arranged based on the pattern on the front, which is a prominent characteristic of the existing building, to express a large “flow” first, and to express another flow through the difference in height of the pillars, creating two main flows.
In addition to flexibility, I wanted to melt keywords such as diversity and harmony found while analyzing buildings. Gray columns were put in proportion between the white columns, and large columns next to the columns representing the flow also expressed diversity and harmony by the difference in blocking and drilling the walls.
